What Does it Take to be a Successful Entrepreneur?
Every heard of these men? Bill Gates, Michael Dell, Phil Knight, Rupert Murdoch or Steve Jobs? Chances are, you have. And it’s not surprising, all of these men have made significant contributions to our society and culture as a whole, MicrosoftÒ, Macintosh, WWF, Dell computers, these men are innovators.
What these men also have in common is that they are successful entrepreneurs. They are quite possibly the most successful entrepreneurs of our era. They have built companies from the ground up. What started as small businesses have become international empires. While they may not look the same, and their respective companies may differ greatly in some ways, these men are joined by one thing; they are go-getters. This group would not take no for an answer. This group had big dreams, big schemes and made it to the top.
So, what makes a successful entrepreneur? How, if you aren’t inherently outgoing, can you gain that go-getter attitude? Using the men listed above, let’s take a look at their shared characteristics. You’ll find that whether or not your business is a multi-million dollar venture or a small out-of-home business, all successful entrepreneurs share certain characteristics.
Heroism. A successful entrepreneur needs to be willing to fight against order. If s/he has a dream, they have to be willing to make sacrifice in the beginning to reap the profits later. They are accepting of the inherent risks.
Hard Work. Ask any successful entrepreneur what the key to their success was and you are more than likely to hear “hard work.” From grammar school through college we have been told repeatedly that hard work pays off. It motivates people towards success. The more you work at something, the more you put your heart into it. And usually, the more time you invest, the more you want and desire the success. In those cases, success usually comes. Obviously, if you have a good idea, solid plans and great execution, you’re off to a good start, but it all boils down to putting in the time and effort to make your dreams come true.
Thinking big with an open mind. Successful entrepreneurs have high hopes. They have grand schemes, and they think big. If you keep yourself closed off, opportunities will pass by and success could flutter out the window. By keeping your eye out for other opportunities, you could very well become a successful entrepreneur.
