Help Yourself with Photoshop® Classes

There are several different Photoshop programs and chances are, there is one that works for what you want to accomplish with a photo editing program. Photoshop classes are available for any of the programs and they are available in many different forms. A lot of people just want to make minor alterations to their pictures and find an easy way to organize and archive their pictures. Some people want to make significant changes to their pictures or want to go into a career that involves design and learning the more advanced Photoshop programs. No matter what Photoshop program you want to use, there are Photoshop classes, whether they are on the Photoshop web site or tutorials from Video Professor.

Photoshop Classes for Elements

Elements is one of the more basic Photoshop programs and it is ideal for beginners. Photoshop classes are available for this program in order to help you with the basics of organizing, editing and sharing your pictures. With this program you can tag and label your photos and build your own creative photo album to share with your family. Photoshop classes can help you navigate more efficiently once you get all your pictures stored on your computer. Labeling, tagging and familiarizing yourself with the search features will allow you to view the photos you want and save time.

The reason you take as many photos as you do is so you can view them for years to come and share them with your friends and family. Luckily, Photoshop classes give tips revealing several creative ways for you to display and share you pictures. Photo books, slide shows, CD/DVD covers, cards, and customized layouts are all available through Photoshop classes.

Photoshop Classes for CS3

CS3 is a more advanced version of Photoshop designed for professional photographers or very advanced amateurs, and there are plenty of Photoshop classes for this version. There are incredible amounts of tasks and alterations that you can perform with this program.

The best picture editing tools are available with this program. Color balancing, drawing and painting tools, cloning, and healing tools are all useful resources to change and improve your photos. Learning these features is hard to do on your own, and ill advised when there are plenty of ways to access Photoshop classes.

If you have a series of similar photos, you can combine these into the one perfect photo using different layers. Through the use of layers, a lot is possible, so find Photoshop classes and learn how to effectively manipulate your layers. Mastering layers will open the door to learning more advanced features and avoid repeating steps.

Photoshop classes help you create improved pictures without making them look grainy, pulled or stretched. Photoshop will also help you learn about the customizable work environments that will anticipate your needs so you can create the best possible images

There is too much to learn about with any Photoshop program to not seek out some Photoshop classes. Make sure you are doing everything properly and that you are not wasting your time and taking too many steps.

Sell Your Photos Online

I had no idea that selling pictures online was such a large market. There are several web sites where people can become members and sell their pictures. This seems like a strange concept. I remember when people bought and sold pictures, real pictures that you can hold in your hand. Now you can buy and sell digital pictures online. It seems strange that you can spend $20 or more on a picture file. But it does give you a much wider selection than you could ever hope for from any photo store, and it is all available on your computer. The selection really is incredible. There is an entire section on one site for office-related pictures, which is the third smallest category on the site and it contains 806 pictures. You can buy a picture of network cables connecting to the back of a modem. This picture has been viewed almost 1,500 times. Yeah, the selling pictures online phenomenon is much larger than I thought. On this same site, you can purchase a picture of a binder clip. That’s it, a picture of a binder clip and nothing more. The cost of this groundbreaking picture, a cool $25 for the largest version.

One site has an entire section dedicated to the sky, and it contains 24,000 pictures. On this same site there is also a category titled “red.” I’m serious, and it contains 21,000 pictures. These sites offer 85 percent of the sale price to the seller, and you could sell a picture as many times as possible. Shutterpoint.com offers membership starting at 5 cents a day for 50 MB of storage, with more storage costing more money. Anyone who wants to buy one of your pictures can do so and you get paid through PayPalÒ. Seems like a good deal, unless no one wants to buy your pictures, then you’re just giving money away. This site also pays commission for referring new photographers and photo buyers to the site. Some sites offer you unlimited storage space and differing lengths on how long you can post pictures on the site.

This isn’t something that takes up a lot of your time, but could net a nice chunk of change if you have good pictures. If you are a professional photographer, this is an easy way to expand your customer base and make some more money. It can help you reach far more customers than any store ever could. This is just one of the many luxuries afforded to us by the digital revolution. You surely wouldn’t be able to easily load pictures onto the Internet from film or negatives.

If you are a decent photographer and you have nothing to do with some quality shots, then it might be an advantageous idea to try and sell your pictures online. You might find a small fortune, especially if you specialize in “red” or “sky” photography.

Your Digital Photography Guide Awaits

Digital photography, it’s just better than film photography. For most people, the advantages of digital cameras are huge, and with all the advancements of technology, you can get the same quality pictures with digital cameras that you got with film, but with much more convenience. There are some key differences and other aspects of digital photography that you need to keep in mind, so you might want to seek out a digital photography guide to help you make the transition and take full advantage of everything digital photography offers.

A digital photography guide can get you up to speed with all the settings on your camera and what to do with your pictures in terms of saving and archiving them. You also have the choice between three different types of digital cameras. The most common type is a point and shoot camera, which is what you probably think of when you think of digital cameras. This is a pretty basic form of camera with a basic lens, zoom and features. Another option is a fixed lens camera. A more detailed digital photography guide can explain the differences in greater detail, but the basic difference is that fixed lens cameras have more powerful zooms. The third choice is a Single-lens Reflex (SLR) camera. Again, a more thorough digital photography guide, like the one offered by Video Professor, can explain these cameras in more detail, but the biggest advantage of these cameras are that they allow you to change lenses and they have a much quicker shutter speed. Manipulation of shutter speed is one aspect most missed by people with basic digital cameras who all experience the delay between when they press the button and when the camera actually takes the picture.

For a detailed explanation of pixels, a major factor to consider, take a look at an excerpt taken from Bob Atkins’ digital photography guide on photo.net:

A pixel is a contraction if the term PIcture ELement. Digital images are made up of small squares, just like a tile mosaic on your kitchen or bathroom wall. Though a digital photograph looks smooth and continuous just like a regular photograph, it’s actually composed of millions of tiny squares. One of the main ways that manufacturers categorize their digital cameras is in terms of pixel count. What this is is the number of individual pixels that go into making each image. Today this number varies between 1 million (1 Megapixel) to around 14 million (14 Megapixels). A million pixels is abbreviated to MP, so a 1MP camera has 1 million pixels and a 3MP camera has 3 million pixels. Currently most popular consumer digital cameras have between 2MP and 5MP. A 3MP camera can make excellent 4″x6″ prints and very good 5″x7″ prints. If you intend to make lots of 8″x10″ prints, then perhaps a 4MP or 5MP camera would be a better choice. Sometimes two numbers are given, total pixels and effective pixels.

For a very thorough explanation of how to use your digital camera, you can work with Video Professor’s digital photography guide (by John W Scherer) available as a CD or online tutorial.

Your Guide To The Perfect Laptop

We all know too well how quickly technology changes. It has to be one of the, if not the most, frustrating parts of buying any new gadget. Nowhere is that more true than when purchasing a new desktop or laptop computer. So, how can one avoid buying a computer that will be out of date a week after it’s purchased? Hopefully, this article will shed some light on the subject.

I’m the proud owner of a 2000 Sony Vaio laptop. What am I doing with an eight-year-old laptop, you ask. That’s a brilliant question. I ask myself the same thing every time I impatiently wait for it to start up. The short answer is that it still kind of works, and I hate buying computers so much that I’m willing to postpone the experience as long as possible. However, I know the time is coming.

As I’ve poured over laptop guide after laptop guide, one thing has become abundantly clear– to stay slightly ahead of technology, you have to spend a lot of money. That’s not good, because just behind buying a new laptop, spending money is one of my least favorite things to do. But, as I sit here, wanting to throw my current laptop out the window, I know that it’s something I need to do. But, before I did anything, I had to decide if I was going to go for a PC or Apple.

Both make great laptops. Both types of laptops have their pros and cons. The guides have good and bad things to say about each. But after carefully researching the guides, I’ve decided to go with an Apple. Why? Quite simply, I’m tired of the bugs, add-on anti-virus software and near endless required updates that PCs require. My wife has an Apple laptop, and I love the thing. It’s intuitive, it’s easy to use and, most important, it hardly ever crashes and not once has it had a virus. Find me a PC laptop that can do the same and maybe I’ll consider it. Until then, my laptop of choice is the MacBook.

Save Your Bad Pictures with Digital Editing

There is no one in the history of picture taking that has been satisfied with every picture they have taken. Whether it is poor composition, poor lighting, blurry subjects or that one person who always decides to make a really creepy face, there is a lot working against your picture turning out the way you want it to. Thanks to the advancement of digital photo-editing programs, you can do a lot more to save your pictures. You can even crop that creepy-faced person right out of your picture. Gone are the days of film when you could not immediately review your pictures to see if they turned out properly and once they were printed you had little ability to change their appearance.

Even if you review your pictures and retake them, there can always be something that you still don’t like about the picture. But if it is something that you really want to have a picture of, like a rare family gathering or a place you may never return to, consider some editing tricks rather than permanently deleting the picture. When dealing with family or portrait pictures, there are some simple ways that you can fix some common problems. If the picture was not taken close enough or if there is any other problem with the composition, you can easily use some of the cropping tools to make the composition better. Red-eye reduction is another common tool that can greatly improve your pictures.

Several editing programs have manual controls so that you can improve the lighting. If you have a landscape shot that was not as well lit as you hoped, you can adjust the levels to get the lighting better or enhance the contrast. A problem with a lot of group pictures is that not everyone is standing parallel with each other and the flash may make some people look like ghosts while others who were standing farther back appear to be in the shadows. You can use the same color balance and lighting controls to even out the difference between these extremes.

A lot of saving can be done with filters in PhotoshopÒ. One simple fix is a black and white filter, and this option is also available in many other programs. Pictures that have color problems can be easily fixed just by making them black and white while other pictures are simply more striking when seen in black and white. There are a number of other filters that can sharpen your pictures or provide an artistic effect. If your picture is a little blurry, you can try out different filters until one looks right. This can hide flaws and also create a new picture. Filters can also be used to soften a picture, which can give the right picture a better feeling.

Color samples can also be used in a number of different ways to get the right look. Fix the effects of fluorescent lights or other situations where the color is just strange. With a little practice you can crop certain items out of the picture and make it look as if nothing was taken out.

Creating New World on Your Computer

It is always fun to pretend, for a little while at least, to be someone else. And for this reason, I want to talk to you all about a small secret I have. I am…a Sims fanatic. I love it. I love the world I create, I love my characters, I love the expansion packs, I love playing it, for hours at a time, and I love being in control of all of them. Being a self proclaimed Sims fanatic comes with certain stigmas, one all of us fanatics have to live with. We are seen as people who sit in the dark, drooling, eating and drinking over our computers with crumbs beneath our chair. Thank you very much, but I have a cup holder and dust buster to cure those problems…plus we all know that sitting in the dark and looking at the computer is bad for eyes, so I don’t do that either. I come home from work and relax a little by opening up my Sims. These reality based games that let you, the player be in complete control are becoming more and more popular as the technology improves.

(Read about what John W Scherer has to say about digital photography.)

So, if you don’t know what I am talking about, let me inform you on the world upon which you are missing out.

So, the Sims was first released on February 4, 2000 and is one of the best selling PC games in history, having sold over 70 million units as of January 2007. Designed by Will Wright and published by Maxis, the Sims is a life-simulation computer game that simulates daily activities of a “Sim,” a human-like character who has its own language. You control their daily activities, their careers, their home life, you build their homes, and try to keep them happy and prosperous. But, as with life, there are some sticky situations these Sims get themselves in and you must keep order. Will Wright has been quoted as calling it a “digital dollhouse.”

Will Wright is also known for having created such games as SimTower, SimCity and SimAnt. All of these are awesome.

So, back to my Sims. If you are interested, they are all doing quite well, and are in general, quite happy. I recently purchased a new expansion pack and they are all going on vacation, to the islands. My Sim recently made a lot of money at work and we are celebrating. Bon Voyage!

Make a Seamless Transition with a Windows® Vista Tutorial

If you have used Windows operating systems for most of your life, then learning to use Vista probably won’t be too difficult for you. You can increase the ease of this process by using a Windows Vista tutorial. One of the best options available is a Video Professor Windows Vista tutorial. You can learn from a CD tutorial or an Internet lesson. Whatever option is more convenient for you will give you the same valuable advice in order to master the new operating system. You will be able to work in Vista as you view the Windows Vista tutorial, an option not afforded to you by other teaching methods.

This new operating system from Windows is designed to be more intuitive and user-friendly, and learning it properly from the beginning will only help you achieve this end. There is no need to struggle with the system that makes your computer work, and you will accomplish tasks much more quickly than someone who is trying to teach themselves.

Video Professor’s Windows Vista tutorial starts off by describing exactly what Vista does for your computer and will describe the many items on your desktop and how to use them to your advantage. Get comfortable with your surroundings in this system during the first lesson. There are a variety of ways to accomplish any given task so take the time to learn all the options. The search tool will help you find files quickly rather than searching through several pages. You will also learn how to create shortcuts to your most important information. Let a Windows Vista tutorial show you how to keep what you need easily accessible.

A Windows Vista tutorial can show you how to keep your information safe in the face of spam, worms and viruses. Whether you need to protect your home computer or an entire network of office computers, a Windows Vista tutorial will reveal the necessary steps to avoid a catastrophe. Viruses, worms and spyware have too many forms of entering your computer such as discs, CDs and the Internet. Protect the memory on your computer for full functionality and surf the Internet without being deathly afraid of identity theft. Luckily there are more than enough ways to protect yourself from infections and a Windows Vista tutorial will inform you of those safeguards.

Something that a lot of people fail to familiarize themselves with is the system tools feature in the start menu. The system tools are available to help you keep track of your data and perform regular maintenance on your computer. Tools such as the Disk Cleanup, System Restore and Task Scheduler are there to keep your computer running properly and are fully explained in a Windows Vista tutorial. Protect your computer from errors and stay organized with this short lesson.

There are also many steps you can take to keep you Vista system current. Connect it to the Internet, and you can automatically receive the most recent updates and software upgrades. If you take just a few hours to learn the features of Vista, you can save yourself plenty of time and frustration.

The Key Items to Consider When Buying a New Computer

Computer prices have come down a considerable amount as technology keeps advancing and they become more cost efficient to make, but buying a computer is still a relatively large purchase for most of us. There are an incredible amount of choices when you are looking for a new computer and, if you are like me, you are concerned that you will end up buying the one terrible computer out of the bunch. You can spend anywhere from $300 to $2,000 or more on a computer so there is obviously a wide range in what you are getting. The more you are likely to spend on a computer, the more selective you should be and the more you are going to demand from it.

The first rule of buying a computer is knowing what you want from your computer. Obviously the person who just wants a word processor, reliable Internet access and a relatively fast computer will buy a markedly different computer than the person who carries their laptop with them at all times, needs constant wireless access, saves all kinds of different files on the computer, and does a substantial amount of their work on a computer. So know what you want and even that amount of information can go miles when the computer store employee is trying to point you in the right direction.

First of all, understand what kind of processor you need. You might want to research this fairly extensively if you need your computer to do more than the average person. But if you don’t need your computer to do all that much, there is no need to find the most advanced processor. For the average person who works with spreadsheets, word processors, the Internet and the other basic needs, you should have a 2.66-GHz Pentium or an Athlon XP 2800+ processor.

Buy as much memory as you can afford. Look for a computer with around 512 MB, but the more you can afford, the faster your computer will perform and the less often you will have to delete items and update your computer.

Give your eyes a break if you can afford getting the right monitor. If you spend a lot of time staring at your screen this might be an area to focus on. One thing to consider is looking for an LCD monitor, which is easier on the eyes than a CRT monitor. The prices of LCD monitors drop like any technology as it becomes more common, so you might be able to find a deal on this. Also look for a larger monitor if you have the money and the space. This will give better composition to documents and other items you view on your screen and is also better for your eyesight.

Make sure that you buy an anti-virus protection program because there is no use in having a nice new computer if a virus quickly cripples it. The more you rely on your computer, the more protection you might need. You also might want to look into anti-spyware protection and advanced firewalls.

Good luck shopping.

The Pros And Cons of Sharing Your Pictures Online

John W Scherer’s Advice: So a major part of the digital photography revolution is being able to share your pictures online and e-mail them to people you know. You would probably like to be able to view your friend’s and family’s pictures as well, right? Well, there are a couple of options in regard to sharing your pictures online, and e-mail is actually not the best way to do so, even if that seems like the obvious choice.

Sending a lot of pictures through e-mail can take up a lot of space and take even longer to open and download. So before you think about sending your favorite pictures to everyone you know, consider if you really want to put them through the time and hassle of downloading a bunch of your pictures. An easy way around this is to find a web site where you can post your pictures and then you can send the web site’s address to as many people as you want without bogging down their computers.

There are a few things to consider when posting your pictures online. The first is deciding what site to use. There are a number of sites dedicated to posting your pictures where you can create an account and divide them into different albums. These sites are designed specifically for posting pictures so they might be the best or most user-friendly way to post pictures. If you post a lot of pictures online, this might be the choice for you, as it will make the process as easy as possible.

Some of the social networking sites give you the ability to post your own pictures, and since these sites are already designed to keep you in touch with your friends and family, anyone you want can view your photos. As this is just one of the many facets of these web sites, you might not find them as convenient for posting pictures as some of the sites that are designed just for pictures. These sites allow you to add captions, arrange pictures in different albums, and allow others to make comments on your pictures. If you already spend a lot of time on one of these sites, it might be a good choice for sharing your pictures.

One thing to keep in mind is that most of these sites don’t have controls to alter or turn your photos after you post them so make sure you have made any changes to your pictures before you publish them online. Most computers come with some kind of a picture viewer that allows you to rotate your pictures rather easily. If you have a program like Photoshop®, you can make some more substantial alterations to your pictures and rotate them. Either way, make sure that the pictures look the way you like and preview them before you send them. Each time you post new pictures, you can send out the link to anyone you want to see your pictures.
